Where do lost socks go?

Where do lost socks go?

I have asked this question millions of times and I'm sure you have too. I have concluded that there must be a little elves living behind my dryer and taking my socks... or the dryer is simply eating them. Either way, I always find the lost one after I've misplaced the one I have.

One solution is to wear mismatched socks, but this always makes me feel like I wasn't awake when I get dressed. So over the past few days I have been piecing together a special craft to keep the single socks in a place I remember so that if I ever find those missing socks I will be able to pair them up.

Here's what you'll need:
  • Picture Frame (must be wooden)
  • Sandpaper
  • Paint
  • Paintbrush
  • Hooks
  • Wire
  • Mini Clothes Pins
  • Drill with a small bit

The first thing you'll want to do is to take the cardboard and glass out of the frame and then sand it down.

My frame was a dark wood so you can't really see, but you want a nice surface to paint on.

Next you'll paint the frame. I painted mine blue first and then white on top. I then sanded down the frame just slightly so the blue showed through in a few places.

Now you can take a break on the frame and take apart the mini clothes pins. I thought they looked cute mini, but you could also use regular sized ones. They might be easier to take apart and put together when they are a bit bigger. I painted mine blue to match the frame accent and then put them back together.

It is time for power tools!  Measure where you want your socks to hang and pre-drill holes into the sides of the frame. The pre-drilling is so the wood doesn't split when you screw in the hooks. Once you've screwed in your hooks you are ready to twist on the wire. Don't forget to thread on the clothes pins before you attach both sides. I might have missed this and had to do it again.

The last thing to do is to make a cute little sign to add to your frame and then hang it in your laundry room. I made mine by just painting right on the frame.

Make sure you clip those socks on tight so the elves won't run in a grab them!
